Thirsty Thursday: Wahoo! It’s almost the weekend! Time to grab a refreshing drink in Berlin to kickstart the weekend. Besides, Feierabend (quitting time) is usually about 15h on Fridays anyway…
The Strandbar Mitte, right across the Spree from the Bode-Museum, springs to life in the summer. The little bar starts serving beers (a bit pricey, but they’ve got a great selection), a little pizzeria offers some snack foods, and most importantly, the DJ sets up and the dance lessons begin. I’m not much of a dancer, so I would never join in; these guys are very VERY serious about their art.
There’s nothing as refreshing as being able to have a nice relaxing, cool drink in the sun while watching people dance Argentine tango, swing, chacha, or whatever happens to be on that night. Stay as long as you want. The lessons usually start at 20h, but you can be sure that the music and the incredible ambiance directly on the Spree will keep you lingering until the evening winds down:
